Why Pineywoods?

We chose Pineywoods cattle, an endangered heritage breed, because they are ideally suited for hilly pastures that combine woods and grasslands. They are gentle, exceptionally healthy, and do well on grass and hay. They calve easily with little to no veterinary help, and they are easy on the land.

Descended from the Hickman line, our cattle come in a broad color palette and are as picturesque as they are hardy.

Growing our herd & serving our customers

We are working with other Pineywoods breeders to add “new blood” to our herd and ensure genetic diversity. Our Pineywoods bulls occasionally take “paid vacations” on other (but not greener!) pastures.

We also run steers from a mix of local breeds to support seasonal demand for grass-fed beef. Like our Pineywoods, they are pasture raised and grass fed throughout their lives. We work with other small farms committed to pasture-raised beef. We never acquire animals from feedlots or sale barns.

How they live

Our cattle spend their lives outdoors, living in a herd on pasture where they have lots of shade, water from a spring-fed pond and all the grass they can eat. In the winter, they receive supplemental hay and occasional treats. Ozarks winters can be hard!
