20 lb pastured pork sampler box

Update: We are out of pork, and waitlists at USDA-certified processors remain very long. We will keep you posted.

Where’s the pork?

We have pork in the freezer, and we’re offering “first dibs” to our waiting list. Meanwhile, we’re not sure when we’ll be able to get more. Covid-19 has had a major impact on local meat processors, and finding an appointment–even months in advance–is very challenging for now.

We’ll update this page as soon as we know more.

What’s in the 20-lb sampler box?

Each sampler includes 20 lbs of USDA-certified sausage, chops, roasts, Boston butt, and bacon from a 100% pasture-raised hog.

Our pork box features a mixture of breakfast, grilling, and all-purpose meats. Cuts break down roughly as follows: 40% ground sausage and/or ground pork, 20-25% chops and loins, 20-25% roasts, hams, and Boston butt, and up to 15% bacon. For the bacon, you can choose a traditional cure, an all-natural cure, no cure at all (“uncured”) or a little of all three. (Looking for our grass-fed beef sampler? Click here.)

Mmmm, bacon!

Who are we?

Heritage Acres of Arkansas is a small, family-run farm in Elkins. We sell grass-fed beef and pastured pork direct to our family and friends, and now we’re adding a growing number of customers.

What is pastured pork?

Our hogs spend their lives on pasture and have continuous access to healthy forage such as acorns, roots, grass, grubs, etc.

Unlike cattle, hogs are omnivores just like us, so they do better with a varied diet. During cold weather, we offer them supplemental calories, including surplus produce and even healthy school lunches (minus pork components, of course). We only occasionally use commercial feed.

How does it taste?

Commercially farmed pork is often lean, dry when cooked, and somewhat bland. In our experience, pastured pork is fattier and offers more complex flavors that may vary throughout the year. Some evidence suggests pastured pork also provides more healthy omega-3 fats than pork you’ll find the grocery store. This article is a nice summary of some good reasons to try pastured pork.

What about payment and delivery?

Our 20-lb pastured pork sampler goes for $4.82/lb plus tax. Delivery is free in Northwest Arkansas. (If you’re outside NWA, we can ship your sampler through Federal Express in a lightweight, durable cooler for an additional $29.)

Remember: a pastured pork sampler box makes a great gift!
